Wandering NYC is now Sidewalk Alchemy.
I consulted friends, family, collaborators, and customers, and the consensus was that this name better describes my mission to teach people how and why to wander, in print and on the streets of New York.
When we wander, we subtly change the world around us, and are changed by it in return.
This is sidewalk alchemy. It's the ability and desire to take something ordinary, and make it extraordinary with a word, a gesture, or a glance.
If you've been reading for a bit, you know that I change my strategy more often than I change my socks, and published infrequently and in bursts.
But I've also been in a long and hellish loop of trying to explain myself in a commercially and philosophically coherent way, and to build strong process that will help concretize this ethereal project.
Over the past month, working with my closest collaborator, we've built a robust system of action and accountability, and today we're pressing play.
I used to write when I felt like it. Now I'm writing on a schedule, and it's going to make a big difference.
If you want to know a little more about this new direction, please read my updated About. And if you like the posts over the next few weeks, please share them.
The new schedule means I will usually publish on Tuesdays and Sundays, and drop a darker, deeper paywalled post for the Pilgrims on Friday nights.
Welcome to Sidewalk Alchemy.
